Understanding data requests

You've received a data request from an investor or partner to share your company data through Verified Metrics. What happens next depends on whether you already have a Verified Metrics account.

What is a Data Request?

A data request is an invitation to securely share your company's financial data with a specific investor or partner. This helps them:

  • Conduct due diligence more efficiently
  • Monitor portfolio company performance
  • Support you with better insights

If You DON'T Have an Account Yet

Notion image

You'll receive an invitation email with a link to create your account.

Important: By creating an account from this invitation link, you automatically accept the data share request from the inviting investor/partner. Any accounting data or banking data you connect, or files you upload will be immediately accessible to them.

What Happens When You Accept

  1. Create your account - Takes 2 minutes (this accepts the data share request)
  1. Connect your accounting system or upload files
  1. Data is automatically shared - Your investor/partner gets instant access to begin their analysis

Your accounting and banking data updates automatically, so you never have to send another financial report manually.

If You ALREADY Have an Account

You'll receive an email notification and will be able to accept or reject the request in Verified Metrics.

How to Respond

  1. Log into Verified Metrics
  1. Go to the "Investors" page
  1. You'll see the inviting investor/partner with a pending request
  1. Select from the following options:
      • Accept - Your currently connected data/files will be shared immediately
      • Reject - Decline the request (they'll be notified)

What Gets Shared If You Accept

If you already have data connected or files uploaded:

  • Accounting data (QuickBooks/Xero) - Shared immediately
  • Banking data - Share immediately
  • Uploaded files - Shared immediately
  • Future data and files - Automatically shared when connected or uploaded
Β

Is My Data Secure?

Yes. We take security seriously:

  • Bank-level encryption - All data encrypted in transit and at rest
  • SOC 2 compliant - Independently audited security standards
  • OAuth authentication - We never see your login credentials
  • Secure infrastructure - Enterprise-grade cloud hosting

Who Can See My Data?

If you have accepted a data request, the investor/partner who invited you and others in their organization who have a Verified Metrics account will be able to access your company’s data and files.

Once you create your account from an invitation, any data you connect or upload is automatically shared with the inviting investor/partner.

Can I Disconnect Later?

  • You can disconnect your accounting data with one click (your investors/partners will still be able to access data from up to the date you disconnected, but will no longer continue to receive updated data).
  • Uploaded files can be deleted immediately.
  • Banking data can be disconnected on-request

What Specific Data is Shared?

If you connect accounting (QuickBooks/Xero):

  • Income statements
  • Balance sheets
  • Cash flow data
  • Transactions and accounts
  • Customer and vendor lists

If you upload files:

  • Only the specific files you choose to upload

You can review exactly what's being shared before connecting.

Common Questions

Do I have to use QuickBooks or Xero?

Verified Metrics currently supports only QuickBooks and Xero for accounting data, but you can also upload financial statements/data as files instead to fill in gaps for your investors/partners, though this provides less functionality.

Will this mess up my accounting system? No - we only read data, never write or modify anything.

How often does data sync? Automatically every 24 hours for connected accounting systems.
