Using the data room (files/folders)
A company's data room contains the documents they've shared with you, plus a private folder for files your investment team adds. This article covers how files are organized, how to upload and download them, and how to manage your team's uploads.
How files are organized
When you open a company's Files page, you'll see three kinds of folders:
1. The company's folders
The company organizes their own data room — creating folders, uploading files, and arranging them. You'll see the same files and folder structure they do.
Files in these folders are visible to:
- The company itself
- Your investor organization
2. Your organization's folder
Important: Files that you or your organization members upload are only accessible to members of your organization. The companies you're evaluating cannot see these files.
Inside each company's data room, you'll see a folder named after your investor organization. This is where files you upload land.
Use this folder for documents you want to keep alongside a company's data without sharing them.

3. The Verified Metrics folder
If the Verified Metrics team has uploaded files for you on a company — for example, bespoke reports — they will appear in a folder named Verified Metrics.
Privacy is the same as your organization's folder: only your team can see it. The company’s users cannot see it.
Uploading files
To upload files to your investor organization's folder:
- Open the company's Files page.
- Click the Upload File button and select one or more files from your computer. You can also drag files directly from your computer into the folder.
Downloading a folder or the whole data room
You can download a company’s whole data room or specific folders as a single ZIP.
- Open the company's Files page.
- To download a folder, navigate into it. To download everything, stay at the “All files” level.
- Click Download this folder (or Download all files) in the top-right of the page.
The files will be bundled into a ZIP and downloaded directly through your browser, with the folder structure preserved inside. The download button only appears in folders once there are at least more than a single file.
Deleting files
Files can only be deleted by the user who originally uploaded them.
To delete a file:
- Find the file in the file table.
- Click the Delete action on the file.
- Confirm the deletion.
Troubleshooting
File too large
The maximum file size for upload is 100 MB. If you need to upload a larger file, try compressing it or splitting it into smaller files.
Upload stuck or failed
Check your internet connection and try again. If the issue persists, try a different browser — Chrome or Firefox are recommended.
